Peru
EveryChild has worked in Peru for 15 years to challenge an ingrained culture of aggression and violence against children. Children run away from home and end up on the streets largely because of violence in the home.

Violence is often inflicted by those in positions of trust, like parents and teachers. In fact, in schools, it has been reported that five out of six children are victims of some form of violence.

EveryChilds’s local partner, Paz y Esperanza, works in the region of Andahuaylas teaching children about their rights and how to defend them. Our local partner also runs workshops in the communities for families to develop their parenting skills and help them to build safe and loving homes for their children.

Last year, around 150 parents and 40 teachers learnt how to prevent physical, psychological and sexual violence. Thanks to our local partner’s workshops, 50 fathers and 85 mothers changed their attitudes towards their children. Hundreds of families have been prevented from being torn apart by violence and abuse, and parents now have a better understanding of the importance of providing a safe and loving environment for their children.
