A group of 10 EveryChild supporters presented hundreds of signatures to the Deputy Prime Minister and the International Development Secretary this week as part of an event organised by BOND to push for concrete results from the summit.

Following a significant campaign by children’s charities from around the world, including EveryChild,the UN General Assembly agreed to new guidelines setting out how governments can develop family-based alternatives to institutional care and services to help keep vulnerable families together. The adoption of the guidelines in November 2009 coincided with the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The UK Department for International Development (DFID) has published a new White Paper setting out its vision for helping the world’s poorest people cope with the economic crisis.
EveryChild, along with other international children’s charities, has been calling on the Government to do more to help children who will be among those hardest hit by the recession. Many thanks to all our supporters who took the time to send their own messages to DFID during the consultation period calling on them to put children first. A detailed EveryChild response to the White Paper will be published shortly.

Thanks to pressure from the Put People First mobilisation of over 100 organisations including EveryChild at the G20 summit the UK Government upped its rhetoric on funding for developing countries.
