You can sponsor a child in two EveryChild-supported projects in Southern India which work with the marginalised Dalit community. They represent some of the lowest social castes, suffer severe discrimination and lack of opportunities. As a result, children are at great risk of losing the care of their parents because they are forced into early marriage or are trafficked into child labour.
The Bidugade Project in Karnataka state works closely with communities where girls are particularly vulnerable to being dedicated as Devadasis, forcing many girls into commercial sexual exploitation far away from their families. In the Engal Kural Project in Tamil Nadu state, the high levels of poverty mean that children are at risk of being trafficked into bonded labour. They risk being separated from the care of their families and being denied an education.
We are working with these communities through nearly 350 child activity centres to help keep families together. We also support credit schemes, enabling women to earn small amounts of money to support their families and creating more sustainable livelihoods for many families who experience poverty.
By sponsoring a child, you will help EveryChild bring about real change to children in India today and for future generations to come, ensuring that children are able to enjoy their childhood, safe from child labour, discrimination, early marriage and trafficking. > Sponsor a child in India
