Steve and Margaret Woodward have been sponsors with EveryChild for 20 years.

They have sponsored eight children over the years, and this year they had the chance to go to India to meet one of them. Here they tell us about their special experience.

“We were picked up by Anand and Jyothi from the EveryChild office in India, who drove us to the office of the Engal Kural Project. It was clear that a great deal of effort had been put into the welcome – it was great to meet the people working on the ground, including the Project Director who was absolutely committed to ensuring the rights for children and women.

We met up with Lakshmi, our sponsored child, at the project office with her parents.  She is a lovely girl and it made us happy to be contributing to improving her life.  Some stories were told and songs sung – good fun and a real pleasure to see them all.  We had lunch with the EveryChild team and Lakshmi.

Later on in the day we went to the Activity Centre. It was fairly dark when we got there and the activity centre was lit with a single bulb.  The children were absolutely great to be with. They were really excited and we were very impressed with how Anand had them all singing songs and playing games.  We had a great time, and the children were just full of fun and laughter. It’s difficult to describe the amazing atmosphere there.

We left after about an hour to return to the Salem centre for dinner. Anand was pretty good at finding somewhere for a good byriani.  We ended up in a local restaurant which was very busy and the food was great.Steve Woodward in India

Overall we had a great time. We gained some real insight into what is happening in the project and were really impressed with the commitment of the individuals involved and the EveryChild organisation overall.

Thank you for giving us this opportunity and particularly thanks to Jyothi and Anand who couldn’t have done more to make it a visit to remember.”
