Pooja Krishna from Tokio Marine visits EveryChild in Romania

Tokio Marine who have been support us for 3 year ran a competition last year for staff members to enter in order to win a trip to the EveryChild Centre based in Cimpia Turzii, Romania. This project was sponsored by Tokio Marine as the Company’s official charity for 2 years.

The competition was to guest the number of sweets in a jar. Pooja Krishna made the closest guess of 186 sweets and as a result Tokio Marine paid for her and her family to visit the project that Tokio Marine has been donating money to in Romania.

Here is her encounter.

“With my family, I visited the charity centre on a bright sunny morning and I had the privilege of spending a few hours with the dedicated people who strive to make others lives better.

I was met by Paula Beudean from EveryChild in Cluj who then took us to the community centre in Cimpia Turzii.

The centre is actually designed as an activity centre where underprivileged children from nearby places come together for a few hours of fun, doing activities like artwork, singing and dancing. They have access to computers for games or activities and are also provided with a snack after the day’s activities.

They have a psychologist on site for talking and guiding the children and the parents along with other volunteers who help make the activities more fun.

On the day of our visit, the activities included making a rabbit during the art class followed by Romanian songs and dances.

The atmosphere was upbeat with most of the children participating in the activities and exchanging healthy repartee. The kids were given the lovely gifts sent by Tokio Marine which they used during the play time.”

How the donation from Tokio Marine has been used

I was advised that the centre has achieved a lot since inception. Many families and children have benefitted though it is an ongoing battle against the mindset where parents prefer the children to stay home and help instead of attending school.

Funds are used also for providing a meal/snack to the children which I was given to understand may well be the only meal that some of the children have during the day. Now, having access to governmental grants has helped them to provide better support and there is a strong possibility of being able to provide hot meals to the children attending the centre. I was thanked for the support that TMEI has provided to them and was advised that the donation from TMEI came as a miracle for the centre. They would have been forced to shut the centre down because of lack of funds and the good work would have come to an end within a year of the centre’s start but for the money sent by TMEI.

To summarise, the efforts of Tokio Marine seemed to be well recognized and have contributed to the well being of the children who attend the centre’s run by EveryChild.
