EveryChild's Chief Executive, Anna Feuchtwang, left the safety of her office on Monday 18th June to join our team of face to face fundraisers for a day.
After a morning of training she swapped the Boardroom for the clipboard and spent a gruelling afternoon in London's busy Leicester Square finding out for herself just what it is like asking busy passers-by to support a good cause.
Anna has led EveryChild for three years and has seen for herself the work that is being done in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union – helping children who are, or are at risk of being, separated from their family or community. Anna had an amazing day talking to members of the public about EveryChild's work and even signing one person up to become a regular donor.
Anna said: ‘I was amazed at how many people wanted to stop and chat. Everybody I spoke to was really impressed by the work of EveryChild and seemed very sympathetic to our efforts to get out into the streets and raise money for children suffering abuse and neglect.
I was thrilled to sign someone up to becoming a regular donor. I was so impressed by the commitment and professionalism of our face-to-face fundraisers. Every Chief Executive whose charity raises money in this way should get out there and see what it is like at the sharp end for themselves.’
Last year our face to face fundraisers signed up over 3,000 new regular donors and it is predicted that the total funds generated over the next five years will be £3.5 million. Face-to-face fundraising is one of our most cost-effective tools for acquiring new supporters.
Its costs and results compare well to other methods of acquisition fundraising and it allows us to engage with a younger audience that do not respond to traditional charity appeals.
