Families are benefiting from a new service in St Petersburg which is providing care for children with disabilities for up to three hours a day.
The Day Care Centre which has just opened its doors in St Petersburg provides a safe and welcoming place for children, and allows parents to take care of daily chores with the knowledge that their child is being well looked after.
“Children with disabilities are at high risk of being separated from their families and placed in institutional care,” said EveryChild’s Chris Rayment.
“Families with children with disabilities sometimes find it hard to cope, and there is normally little support available to them. Facilities like the Day Care centre aim to provide that support, and show parents that there are alternatives to placing their children institutional care.”
The new centre is staffed by qualified teachers, psychologists and social workers.
