4th Feb 2010 - Globally there are more than one million children in prison. In developing countries children, including those who have only committed minor offences, often serve their sentences in appalling conditions alongside adult prisoners.

EveryChild warns against international adoptions and building orphanages in response to the Haitian earthquake
21st Jan 2010 - EveryChild, the international children’s charity has joined with other international children’s organisations to call for an urgent moratorium on all adoptions from Haiti to ensure that children are not left vulnerable to trafficking, or separated from surviving family members. 

EveryChild helps publish a report on child rights in Ukraine
5th Jan 2010 - EveryChild Ukraine has worked alongside a coalition of Ukrainian NGOs to publish a report on the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in Ukraine. In 2008 the Ukraine Government published a national report on how well child rights have been implemented in Ukraine from 2002 to 2006.

UN guidelines on the alternative care of children unanimously agreed in New York
23th Nov 09 - EveryChild is delighted that on Friday 20th November the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly welcomed by consensus the Guidelines on the Alternative Care of Children, exactly 20 years on from the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

Response to UK report on looked-after children

A UK parliamentary select committee has called for a radical overhaul of the care system in England. EveryChild welcomes the committee’s recommendations for looked-after children but also cautions that any move to increase the number of children’s homes would have dire consequences for children in care in England.

EveryChild helps change law in Ukraine
9th April - EveryChild has won another victory in the battle to keep children out of children’s homes in Ukraine. Partly thanks to a campaign run by EveryChild, the Ukrainian government has changed the law so that all possible options will be explored before a child is placed in a children’s home. 

Madonna’s adoption rejected: EveryChild responds
3rd of April - EveryChild welcomes the news that Madonna’s second adoption from Malawi has not been rushed through the country’s courts.


EveryChild India launches innovative Child Tracking System

19th Mar 09 - EveryChild India and local partner organisation the Child Rights Trust are launching a new Child Tracking System in Southern India. For the first time children will have information about their health, school enrolment and any child protection issues recorded by local authorities.
