High praise for EveryChild's work in Ukraine

President Victor Yushchenko officially opened the conference at which EveryChild received high praise for their efforts in helping to reform childcare in Ukraine

Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Dmytro Tabachnyk, has praised the role EveryChild played in helping his government reform its childcare system. His remarks were part of a speech to Ukraine's President, Victor Yushchenko, his Ministers, local government representatives and officials with responsibility for children, at a conference in March 2007. The Vice Prime Minister commended EveryChild's contribution in implementing reforms which are improving childcare across the country and hastening the end of large scale institutional care.

EveryChild's Country Director in Ukraine, Volodymyr Kuzminskyy, who attended the conference at which Vice Prime Minister Tabachnyk made his comments said: "It is fantastic news that child protection is so high on President Yushchenko's agenda and that EveryChild have been acknowledged as an important part of the process of childcare reform. We will continue work closely with the Ukrainian government on improving the lives of vulnerable children in Ukraine."

President Victor Yushchenko officially opened the conference on child protection on 13th March. The conference, "With Love and Care to Children", brought together key decision makers, including ministries with responsibilities for children, state governors, national ombudsman, non-governmental organisations, including EveryChild, and leaders of Ukrainian children organisations " including children themselves.

EveryChild's work has also been praised in an official report on the state of children and childcare in Ukraine, which has been recently published by the Ministry for Families, Youth and Sport. The report highlights EveryChild's work as an example of best practice, particularly in relation to our Mother and Baby Unit in the city of Chernigiv.
