Georgia: Office closure but childcare services continue
EveryChild’s administrative office in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi has been temporarily closed since Friday due to the outbreak of violence but our childcare services remain in operation.
“The children’s services, in the areas of Rustavi and Tianeti, are running as normal but we are assessing the situation continually,” said Andro Dadiani, EveryChild’s Country Director in Georgia.
“We are working closely with UN agencies and government partners at this time to monitor the situation as it affects children and families. Our priority at the moment is to maintain as much normality as possible for the children under our care and staff safety,” he said from Tbilisi.
The EveryChild childcare training, which is run countrywide in Georgia, is currently on hold.
Thousands of people have been killed in Georgia since fighting broke out on Thursday between Georgia and Russia over disputed control of South Ossetia. EveryChild welcomes any news of a ceasefire.
EveryChild works to prevent institutionalisation of children and family breakdown in Georgia.
