On Sunday 13th April 2008, 34420 people completed the 28th Flora London Marathon. They had run 26.2 miles, passing some of London's most famous landmarks and the 500,000 people who lined the streets to cheer them on. Their challenge ended as they crossed the finish line in The Mall where they were awarded their Finishers Medal.
We were very pleased to have 16 people running in this event for us this year. Between them they look set to raise £25,000 to fund our projects with vulnerable children and their families across the world.
We would like to say a very big WELL DONE and THANK YOU to everyone that took part for EveryChild. Marathon Day marks the end of several months gruelling training and we are extremely grateful for your hard work and dedication.
Once again, EveryChild staff and volunteers were along the route and at the finish line to cheer on all the runners, not just EveryChild's!
Along the route we were on The Highway at miles 13 and 22, giving everyone the encouragement they needed to keep going.
At the finish line in Horse Guards Road we were there to give everyone a big pat on the back and to congratulate them on successfully tackling the course.
The 16 EveryChild runners have spent many months training and fundraising for the big event. And it paid off. All runners completed the course, with the first runner crossing the line in a very impressive 2hours 59minutes and the last crossing the line in 5hours 32 minutes. A tremendous achievement given the unpredictable weather!
