In May 2006, EveryChild launched a brand new fundraising event: Expedition Romania. In this exciting new initiative, a group of EveryChild supporters combined the trip of a lifetime with the opportunity to visit an EveryChild project and see exactly how their support has changed the lives of children and families living in Romania for the better.
The trip began with a two-day visit to Cluj-Napoca, the main city in Transylvania. Whilst here the group were taken on a tour of the city before visiting one of EveryChild's Urban Community Projects and meeting some of the children enrolled on the project.
The next three days were spent trekking through the Apuseni Mountains taking in the truly spectacular views, stopping at various villages to sample local produce and visit craft museums. In addition the group got the opportunity to visit Scarisoara - home to the world's second largest ice cave.
The group also spent a day in the small village of Maguri Racatau where they were given the task of renovating the library located in the school grounds. This library will not only benefit the children at the school but everyone in the community.
The trip was a huge success and provided the group with the best of both worlds " the chance to visit areas of outstanding beauty and experience new cultures, as well as the opportunity to make a massive difference to the lives of vulnerable children and families by raising over £ 10,000 for EveryChild.
