The Bluebird Appeal
“It is nice to help a child live a happier life”
From relatively small beginnings in 1987, the Bluebird Appeal has raised over £60,000 for EveryChild, including sponsorship of 20 children across the regions that we have worked in. Its founders, Margaret and Terry Hurd from Somerset, began to hold car boot sales and bazaars in order to fundraise for their sponsorships.
In 2000, the Hurds, their friends, family and colleagues agreed to continue fundraising as The Bluebird Appeal “as bluebirds are for happiness, and that is what the children needed.” The Appeal then began to hold to a biannual fair hosting a bric-a-brac sale, psychic readers and other alternative therapists. The “Mind, Body and Spirit Festival” is extremely popular amongst the locals in Glastonbury and most recently raised approximately £2000 for EveryChild. The funds are in fact raised by the therapists and readers who donate almost all of their fees. Read more on the Bluebird appeal
