I am delighted to present EveryChild’s 2008/09 Annual Review.
In 2008/09, EveryChild reached more children than ever before, growing up, or at risk of growing up, vulnerable and alone, without the care and safety of a family.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention
on the Rights of the Child. Despite some real progress in combating child poverty, a child’s right to a family continues to be widely neglected. There are still at least 24 million children throughout the world living without parental care and EveryChild is determined to do more to give them a voice and make sure they are heard.
Our Annual Review highlights how, around the world, we have taken hundreds of children out of institutional care and reunited them with their families, protected hundreds of children living on the streets, and helped thousands of vulnerable families to look after their children. You will also read more about how EveryChild has been at the forefront of key legislative changes. Our recent achievement in Moldova in introducing new foster care standards is just one example of this.
